Investigation on the Efficiency of Premium Motor Spirit and Propane Gas

Summary

The investigation on the efficiency of PMS (Premium Motor Spirit) and Propane gas using a petrol engine was done. The components and materials used are; 3.0KVA generator (Sumec Fireman ), a hybrid converter, hose, pressure Regulator, 12.5 Kg gas cylinder, and gallon of petrol (PMS). The set up are assembled and firmly installed. It was first run on PMS for constant and variable Electrical loads and secondly run on Propane for both constant and variable electrical loads. Time collection were made for running each of the test both on PMS and Propane gas. Results were recorded, tabulated and evaluated for fuel consumption rate, specific fuel consumption, and Brake thermal efficiency. However, from the results it was found out that propane has a better fuel economy, more environmental friendly, decreased noise level, reduced carbon (iv) oxide and carbon (ii) oxide emission. The propane when used provides a better service life to the generator because there is no accumulation of carbon deposits compared to PMS. Thereby elongating the lifespan of the generator.
