EVALUATING THE PROBLEM OF SOLID WEAST MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA
1. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Waste management in Nigeria should be properly recycled and disposed, this is due to the fact that most waste is not actually waste. Inorganic waste can be recycled and should be used for the production of other economic commodities, while organic waste can also be processed to become manure for agricultural use.
The physical environment should therefore not be littered with waste in the sense that while we keep our environment clean, we should at the same time improve the standard of living of the Nigerian citizens.
But in recent years, waste management has been ignored and looked down on, this has lead to total pollution of our physical environment and has contributed to the steady decrease of the standard of living of the Nigerian citizens.
Government at all levels should bring up policies and programs such as education and public enlightenment to ensure proper waste management in Nigeria. This is an urgent need because the Nigerian population has increased in recent years ,and is expected to increase even higher in coming years and if this problem is not well handled, the Nigerian citizens face the risk of harmful, deadly diseases and infections such as Ebola, Malaria and Lassa fever.
