An Introduction to Early Childhood Care and Education in Nigeria

By Aboki Associates

Summary

Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) begins with
getting to know children. This also means getting to know
families and communities. Understanding the important
roles families and community play in ECCE programmes
helps teachers build positive, respectful relationships that
support children’s learning and development.
The child is seen as a unique individual who will learn
at his/her own pace.Children thrive when placed in a
friendly environment where they can experience cultural
values and traditional practices with the support of parents
and the community. Learning experiences should be
meaningful and relevant in helping children make
connections between what is being taught and their own
life experiences within a nurturing and secure
environment that encourages the child’s physical, social,
emotional and intellectual development.
