Nothing here

The course focuses on the organization of meaning in English with particular reference to the theories of sentential and lexical analysis, with emphasis on the following: Illocutionary acts, truth value conditions (presupposition and entailment focus), predication and performative analysis. The general principles of lexicology, lexicography, and the attendant problems should receive due attention. The course is expected to expose MA students to the basic concepts and terms for understanding the meanings linguistic items exhibit in sentences. It is therefore, designed to deepen the students’ knowledge of the semantic patterns of the English structures in real-time texts, and equip them with practical and critical skills for teaching and linguistic analysis of text, especially in their academic research writing.
