An Introspective Contemplation on the Priestly Ideals

An Introspective Contemplation on the Priestly Ideals

Uploaded by ABOKI ASSOCIATES

In a world where the priesthood is facing dire challenges like sexual abuse of children, spiritual aridity, misappropriation of funds and gross materialism among others, there is a need for priests who are well experienced in ministry and have developed themselves not only spiritually but intellectually and psychologically to help their fellow priests live above the challenges of the 21st century. One of those refined priests in Northern Nigeria is Reverend Father Professor Moses Orhungur, a scholar and legend. Fr Moses Orhungur has lived up to this task of helping in guiding and instructing his fellow priests in line with the challenges of the time. This is what Father has done in 2008 at the annual retreat in the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo. In this eight chapter book, Father Orhungur has reflected on the essence of a retreat and the attitude of priests during retreats; the true ideals of the priesthood, the challenges of the Nigerian priests in the 21st century; the collective responsibility of all priests; Mary, our mother and model; a lesson on patience; and the importance of reconciliation. Each of these chapters has a unique message for a contemporary priest and the lay faithful. They offer an outstanding expose’ on the failure and strength of the priesthood. This revolutionary and scholarly message from Father do not only address the problems within the priesthood

Patriarchal Ideologies

Patriarchal Ideologies

Uploaded by BAHITI AND DALILA

“To break the chain of poverty women need to be empowered even if the men have always operated the “palace-temple-among technology complex” and the women have always operated the “kitchen-gardens-home craft-childbearing complex.” The hope of this study is to address these institutional inequalities by: engineering a re- socialisation process within the dynamics of cultural and social institutions to overcome internalization and inspire empowerment through the media to promote the rights of Tiv women to effectively participate in the democratic processes of rural development through people controlled communities to overcome their marginalization and rural poverty…Over two hundred school girls abducted by Boko Haram, The Chibok Girls that highlighted the agony of women in that part of Nigeria have not been released, a year after their abduction May 2015. This national shame is enough to send the government home, yet it is business as usual with callousness and impunity. The same leadership is seeking sympathy for admitting defeat at elections for conceding defeat; unheard of! Nigeria has become a private property, so much so that violent holding onto power is legitimized and the people owe it a duty to eulogize a rejected leader who is walking the gallery instead of walking the gallows.

Nature and Nurture Education in the 21st Century Knowledge and Political Economy

Nature and Nurture Education in the 21st Century Knowledge and Political Economy

The 21st  Century and the current trends in knowledge  economy have produced powerful jingles that are linked with the Millennium Development Goals. The world as a unitary system may be difficult to sustain but the contemporary world as a knowledge-driven system has created a novel situation which, according to Oriafo (2005), is commonly referred to as globalization. Yet we know that there has always been the cultural hierarchy and compartmentalization of the word into races, classes and groups with such antithetical combinations as haves/have nots, white/black, developed/underdeveloped as well as Europe and America/the rest of the world. It does not matter the diversity of culture or level of education, there is always the over-riding image of the slaves and the enslaver which gives rise to a similar image of the horse and the rider. The antithetical combinations are matter-of- fact situations in human relationships but there is a natural foundation that can be nurtured to produce the varying vantage and disadvantaged positions.. This  paper   therefore,   explores  what   may   be   described  as ―naturecratic  education‖  but  with  some  recourse  to  the  provisions  of modern world.

Can There Be a Credible Philosophy of History

Can There Be a Credible Philosophy of History

The main idea of philosophy plays a significant role in human reasoning. It changes the role of material circumstances in human activities, it invokes the notions of human agency and it depicts generally acceptable meaning of historian events. It ensures the willingness of full understanding of ourselves in the present by understanding the choices, the forces and circumstances that results to our present situation and it also ensures a possible learning from history; that is; the Past. These reflections can be amalgamated together into a body of work to ensure a philosophy of history. In ensuring the Plurality of voices within the philosophy of history; it is impossible to give one explanation of the field that fits all these approaches. We can sensibly think of philosopher’s writings concerning history as entailing metaphysics, historicism, epistemology and hermeneutics including several important questions: - Does History in general have structure, meaning, direction beyond the individual actions and events that makes it up? - To what degree is human history constitutive of the human represent? - What does history comprise of –social structures, regions, periods, individual actions, large casual processes, civilizations, divine intervention? - What is entailed in our representing, knowing and defining history?

A Critical Exposition of Jeremy Bentham’s Hedonistic Philosophy and Its Relevance to the 21st Century Sociopolitical and Economic Conditions of Nigeria

A Critical Exposition of Jeremy Bentham’s Hedonistic Philosophy and Its Relevance to the 21st Century Sociopolitical and Economic Conditions of Nigeria

A worthwhile stroll down memory lane and a deep-seated meditation on the current sociopolitical cum economic quagmire and imbroglio of the country calls for proposal of a a potent solution not mere analysis. The current socio-economic challenges in the category of high rate of poverty, huge youth unemployment, persistent power-blackout despite colossal amount of money invested therein, and above all, the perennial disgruntlement between the government and the citizens, that has as you might expect, led to high level of distrust on the leaders and the rest of the citizens must be tackled headlong. It is on this regard we found hedonism not just as a palliative but a panacea.

A Critical Study of Richard Rorty‟S Post-Philosophic Culture

A Critical Study of Richard Rorty‟S Post-Philosophic Culture

The modern period of history of philosophy was convinced of the role of reason, and the rationalistic universe of meaning: the Enlightenment extolled the power of reason to order human affairs and shape the world we live in, insisting that reason can apprehend reality and prescribe for both theory and practice. The insistence that reason has answer to most of humanity‟s problems or to the structuring of reality reached became too eloquent in Immanuel Kant

A Philosophical Appraisal of Abortion Using Kant’s Categorical Imperative

A Philosophical Appraisal of Abortion Using Kant’s Categorical Imperative

This work is concerned with the issue of abortion which most people condemn as morally unjustifiable, and to which others adopt an attitude of indifference, and see nothing morally reprehensible about it. Hence, the question as to whether or not the foetus is a living thing has not resulted to any answer of either "Yes" or "No", thereby generating diverse opinions.
