An Introduction to Early Childhood Care and Education in Nigeria

An Introduction to Early Childhood Care and Education in Nigeria

Uploaded by ABOKI ASSOCIATES

Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) begins with getting to know children. This also means getting to know families and communities. Understanding the important roles families and community play in ECCE programmes helps teachers build positive, respectful relationships that support children’s learning and development. The child is seen as a unique individual who will learn at his/her own pace.Children thrive when placed in a friendly environment where they can experience cultural values and traditional practices with the support of parents and the community. Learning experiences should be meaningful and relevant in helping children make connections between what is being taught and their own life experiences within a nurturing and secure environment that encourages the child’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual development.

Parenting, Child Self-Esteem and Achievement Motivation

Parenting, Child Self-Esteem and Achievement Motivation

Uploaded by ABOKI ASSOCIATES

Parenting, Child Self-Esteem and Achievement Motivation is a book that really educates parents on parenting. The author has taken time to give parents, teachers and researchers theories and models of parenting, particularly the author’s model of authoritative parenting, for educating and training of parents. The interesting areas for parents to look out for are the various parenting styles; appropriate, inappropriate and dysfunctional parenting. The book is not limited to parents alone, it deals with teachers as well. The personality variables of self-esteem and achievement motivation were explained as well as how parents and teachers can help in developing them in children.

The desire of students to have an in-depth knowledge of the Guidance and Counselling Services necessitates the idea for this book. Its sixteen chapters have attempted to introduce the Guidance and counselling services to those coming into the Counselling profession. To give them a good starting point, the book starts with a brief history of the evolution and development of modern Guidance and Counselling in Nigeria, while chapter two identifies some salient services in Guidance and Counselling programme. Chapters three to fifteen of the book handle the respective services and their role in educational and social development. The thirteen chapters discuss the concepts, aims, approaches and functions among other salient issues of the respective services. Chapter sixteen evaluates the general performance of the services in helping the society. Child Education and Parenting in African Traditional Society

Child Education and Parenting in African Traditional Society

Uploaded by BAHITI AND DALILA

Education as a process of acculturation exists in every culture of any people in the world with the aim of meeting the needs of the learner and those of the immediate community as well as the wider society. This process of educating or training the younger generation and gradually integrating them into meaningful and functional adult life does not necessarily mean literacy and is not limited to occurring within the four walls and corners of a classroom. The health and wealth of any nation depend on its educational system and thus no society can rise above its level of education; be it African or European. Charity they say begins at home. This is because the home is the first environment the child finds him/herself. Therefore, the family which is the smallest social unit of the society serves as the base for the success or failure of education of all kinds anywhere in the world.
